It's quite likely that most of your friends and family will own a digital camera. They are available so cheaply these days that even people who only have a fleeting interest in photography and simple want to take a few casual pictures are able to afford relatively high quality cameras with fairly impressive capabilities. However, top of the range cameras such as the Leica X1 and other similar digital SLR units are unaffordable to most people. These cameras will typically be used by professional photographers and in the hands of a trained professional they are capable of producing stunning images.
Many purists would argue that digital SLR cameras are no match from traditional film loaded SLR cameras and people simply favour the digital models out of convenience. However, units such as the Leica X1 are arguable capable of producing results that are equally to or surpass the capabilities of even the most advanced traditional SLR units. As a result these high quality cameras are favoured by skilled professional photographers who are looking for a camera that is versatile and capable of producing excellent results. The Leica X1 is the perfect camera for most professional photographers.
However, not all of us are able to afford such an impressive piece of equipment. Thankfully they are much more affordable digital cameras available from Leica and many other manufactures that are more than capable of taking impressive photographs even in the hands of an inexperienced user.
